Winners Revealed – The Hollywood Reporter


Monica Sorelle, Monique Walton and Set Hernandez have been named the winners of the three rising filmmaker awards on the annual Spirit Awards Nominee Brunch on Saturday.

Killers of the Flower Moon star Lily Gladstone and Rustin star Colman Domingo hosted the occasion for the nonprofit arts group, Movie Unbiased.

Stella Artois introduced the Somebody to Watch Award to Mountains director Sorelle. The award acknowledges a “first-time narrative filmmaker of singular imaginative and prescient who has not but acquired acceptable recognition,” in accordance with Movie Unbiased. The award included a $25,000 grant.

Set Hernandez, director of Unseen, was honored with the More true Than Fiction Award, which is introduced to a first-time director of non-fiction options. The award additionally included a $25,000 grant.

Lastly, Bulleit Frontier Whiskey introduced Monique Walton with the Producers Award, which honors “rising producers who, regardless of extremely restricted sources, display the creativity, tenacity, and imaginative and prescient required to provide high quality, impartial movies,” in accordance with the group. The award included a $25,000 grant by Bulleit Frontier Whiskey.

“Understanding the large challenges impartial artists are going through, it’s important that they’re supplied the sources to maneuver ahead with their inventive visions,” Josh Welsh, president of Movie Unbiased, stated. “The Rising Filmmaker Awards present important help to those gifted artists, enabling them to proceed to develop new work and thrive as singular artists.”

Winners for the remaining awards classes can be revealed on the 2024 Movie Unbiased Spirit Awards, hosted by Saturday Evening Dwell alum Aidy Bryant, on Sunday, Feb. 25, on the seashore in Santa Monica, California.
