A Be aware from Julieanne, 8 February

Expensive Grif-friend,

Often I really feel like breaking apart with theatre. Its demanding nature, all these thankless duties that don’t get observed, the costly tastes when it is aware of there’s by no means sufficient cash, the late nights, the consuming. Generally I believe I’ve had sufficient and I need to go away. I’m performed. However then theatre magic occurs. Like final night time, sitting in on the gown rehearsal of Summer season of the Aliens by Louis Nowra.

I slipped into the SBW Stables Theatre slightly early so caught the top of battle rehearsal with the very gifted battle choreographer Tim Dashwood. There have been jokes and jibes taking place within the background. Ursula Yovich was being mischievous and it’s not possible for Paul Capsis to not make a grand entrance even when its simply strolling from one aspect of the stage to the opposite (which on the SBW Stables Theatre is 5 steps!). The extraordinary Brett Boardman had arrived to take pictures and as soon as once more seize Griffin’s reveals in a manner that I don’t know anybody else does or can. The inventive staff within the seating banks settled in with their laptops, handing round lollies for the night time forward. And I felt fortunate to be there.

Tomorrow night time, we begin previews of The Lewis Trilogy by Louis Nowra—Griffin’s epic endeavor to bid farewell to this wonderful little theatre earlier than we pull her down and rebuild a brand new house for Australian playwriting. We’re in a world of lasts: the final manufacturing within the theatre as we all know it, that holds over 50 years of groundbreaking tales and little doubt occasional disasters, the final gown rehearsal, the final opening night time and shortly, the final present. So sure, we’re all feeling very sentimental.

We invite everybody to come back and say goodbye with an epic ten-week season of The Lewis Trilogy. Perhaps fall in love once more, as I did final night time watching one of many closing scenes between the younger Lewis and his finest pal and would-be-lover Dulcie, performed by Philip Lynch and Masego Pitso. The depth and vulnerability and fragility of life is all there on the stage in entrance of you. There’s something so visceral about theatre, which the little SBW Stables Theatre stage appears to amplify. And there I used to be, in love once more.

Love,
JC
