Lola Dee, whose 1951 hit “Fairly Eyed Child” underneath the title Lola Ameche rose to No. 21 on the Billboard singles chart, has died at 95. She died of pure causes in a Hinsdale, Illinois nursing facility, her publicist mentioned.
The singer had her title modified within the Nineteen Sixties to raised enchantment to the burgeoning youth market.
Dee toured with Bob Hope, Jimmy Durante and Johnnie Ray, and was signed to the Columbia and Mercury labels within the ’50s. In her heyday, she recorded greater than 20 songs, together with “Hitsity Hotsity,” “Dance Me Unfastened,” “Previous Man Mose,” “Down Yonder,” “Take Two to Tango” and “Don’t Let the Stars Get in Your Eyes.”
Within the Nineteen Sixties, the now blonde singer recorded the songs “Padre” and “Dig That Loopy Santa Claus.” Beneath Mercury’s subsidiary label, Wing Data, her cowl of the Platters’ “Solely You (And You Alone)” bought shut to 1 million copies.
Dee stepped again from her musical profession to deal with her mom when she developed Alzheimer’s.
Dee is survived by her sonm Barry, whom she had with husband Ralph Valentino.
