This recipe comes from my massive sister. Every fall, we get collectively and make about 20 of those pies to make use of at Christmas, give as items or freeze for surprising firm. —Pat Menee, Carberry, Manitoba

  • 1/2 cup minced contemporary parsley
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried rosemary, crushed
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 teaspoon floor mace
  • 1 teaspoon floor cloves
  • 1 cup dry bread crumbs

Instructions

  1. Coarsely chop the celery, carrots and onions; place in a meals processor with garlic. Cowl and course of till finely chopped; put aside.

  4. Cowl edges of pies loosely with foil. Bake for 25 minutes. Scale back warmth to 350°. Take away foil and bake pies 15-20 minutes longer or till crusts are golden brown.
Freeze choice: Cowl and freeze unbaked pies. To make use of, take away from freezer half-hour earlier than baking (don’t thaw). Preheat oven to 400°. Place pie on a baking sheet; cowl edges loosely with foil. Bake 25 minutes. Scale back warmth to 350°. Take away foil. Bake pie 50-60 minutes longer or till crust is golden brown and a thermometer inserted in heart reads 165°. Yield: 4 pies (8 servings every).
