Following its critically acclaimed UK tour, The Service provider of Venice 1936 transfers to London’s West Finish for a restricted season on the Criterion Theatre, from 15 February – 23 March. Tracy-Ann Oberman (EastEnders, Physician Who, Friday Evening Dinner), continues her groundbreaking portrayal of Shylock, being the primary British actress to play the function. Ambition, energy and political unrest explode onto the stage on this “hanging and impactful” (The Guardian) manufacturing that “makes theatre historical past” (Each day Telegraph). This “fascinating and well timed” (Each day Mail) reimagining sees Shakespeare’s basic transported to Nineteen Thirties East London towards the backdrop of the ‘Battle of Cable Avenue’. With town getting ready to political unrest, fascism sweeping throughout Europe and Oswald Mosley’s British Union of Fascists threatening a paramilitary march by the Jewish East Finish, strong-willed single mom Shylock runs a pawnbroking enterprise from her home in Cable Avenue the place Mosley will march.
